Kabuto FRT · CNC Aluminum Housing · No Fitting Required · Made in Texas
The first Kabuto that drops in and runs with zero fitting. The Tex Kabuto now has a CNC machined 6061 aluminum housing, a full stainless steel ambidextrous 3-position selector, and a redesigned activator that seats in high-shelf, low-shelf, and M16-cut mil-spec AR-15 lowers. No shims. No filing. No shaving the activator.
This kit replaces the Kabuto Gen 2 and Gen 3. Both printed-housing versions are discontinued, and every Kabuto we sell now has a metal housing. If you came here looking for the Gen 2, Gen 3, or "Kubota," this is the current version, and it is the one we would have told you to buy anyway. Same $119.99.
Looking for our Full Metal Kabuto? It's this one. Same Texas maker, same metal body, now with the no-fitting activator, so we merged the two into one listing at the lower price.
What's In The Box
Kabuto FRT
CNC machined 6061 aluminum housing, metal timing plunger and lever, bearing steel main pin.
Metal Ambi Selector
316 stainless steel, 3-position, fully ambidextrous. Installed-ready.
Die-Cut Stickers
Because every build gets one.
No Fitting Required
A Kabuto works off the top of your lower receiver, and shelf height changes from one manufacturer to the next. That is why every Kabuto before this one shipped with a shim to stick in and an activator you might have to shave.
The Tex Kabuto's activator geometry was redesigned to reset correctly across the full range of mil-spec lowers. It drops in and runs in:
- High-shelf mil-spec AR-15 lowers
- Low-shelf mil-spec AR-15 lowers
- M16-cut lowers, including almost every PSA lower, with no spacer shim
No shims. No filing. No sanding. No activator shaving. Install it, function check it, run it.
Why The Metal Selector Matters
Most Kabuto kits on the market still ship with a 3D printed polymer selector, and many still use a printed housing. Those two parts were the number one and number two failure points on the Gen 2 and Gen 3. This kit has neither.
- CNC machined 6061 aluminum housing: no printed body to crack
- Stainless steel selector body, timing plunger, and timing lever, with zero printed parts in the safety selector
- Crisp metal-on-metal detents between Safe, Semi, and Forced Reset. Printed selectors get mushy; this one doesn't.
- Lower friction, higher wear resistance, and a more consistent reset feel over the life of the trigger
Platform Compatibility
| Fits | Details |
|---|---|
| AR-15 mil-spec lowers | High-shelf, low-shelf, and M16-cut. No fitting required. |
| Trigger | Mil-spec trigger. LaRue MBT owners: use the LaRue Kabuto. Geissele SSA owners: use the Geissele-Ready Kabuto Package. |
| PCC | AR-pattern 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP. PCC may need minor fitment and adjustment. |
| Required BCG | M16-profile full-auto cut BCG. A semi-spec carrier will not engage the reset. |
Not compatible: CMMG .22 conversions or .22 LR dedicated lowers.

Install & Break-In
The metal selector installs differently from a nylon one. Full steps with photos are in our Kabuto FRT installation guide.
- Remove the right-side screw and pop off the lever.
- Seat the selector in the Safe position.
- Reinstall the plunger and grip.
- Slide the lever back on and tighten the screw.
- Before live fire, cycle and dry-fire 10 to 20 times to seat the contact surfaces.
- If it doesn't cycle cleanly in the Forced Reset position, run one or two magazines in Semi first.
Pair it with an M16 full-auto cut BCG and an H2 or H3 buffer from our AR-15 buffer collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as the Kabuto Gen 3 or the NSPEC Kubota?
No. The Gen 3 and the old Kubota used a printed housing and a printed nylon selector. This is the current Kabuto: a CNC machined aluminum housing, a stainless steel ambi selector, and an activator redesigned so it needs no fitting. It replaces both.
Why did you stop selling the Gen 3?
The printed housing and printed selector were the two biggest failure points, and the printed body broke on roughly one in ten units. We moved every Kabuto we sell to a metal housing and a metal selector, and kept the price at $119.99.
Does this Kabuto work in PCC builds — 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP?
Yes, in AR-pattern PCC lowers. PCC lowers vary more than AR-15 lowers, so a PCC may need minor fitment and adjustment. The no-fitting design applies to mil-spec AR-15 lowers.
What is the 3M spacer shim for?
Earlier Kabutos needed a 3M spacer shim to seat in M16-cut and wide-wall lowers, PSA included. The redesigned activator geometry on this Kabuto removed that need. It seats in high-shelf, low-shelf, and M16-cut mil-spec lowers with no shim.
Does it require a full-auto cut BCG?
Yes. An M16-profile full-auto cut carrier is required. A semi-spec BCG will not engage the reset. Our Trigger Supply M16 BCG is the one we run.
What buffer should I run?
H2 minimum, H3 recommended. Avoid solid buffers. Start with our AR-15 buffers.
Is this compatible with LaRue and Geissele triggers?
This Kabuto is built around the mil-spec trigger. For a LaRue MBT-2S, get the LaRue Kabuto, which is cut to the MBT's profile and also needs no tuning. For a Geissele SSA, get the Geissele-Ready Kabuto Package, which includes our SSA insert.
Is the Kabuto FRT legal?
FRT rules differ by state and have changed more than once. Check the current federal and state-by-state status on our FRT legality guide before you buy.
Know your state laws. Some states restrict forced reset triggers. It is the buyer's responsibility to know and follow local law. See Are FRT Triggers Legal? for the current state-by-state breakdown. Install by a qualified individual familiar with AR-15 and PCC platforms.
